Hannah Burlingame photos/Review The Mississippi River overtook the boat launch in South St. Paul under Interstate 494 as seen March 27. In preparation for flooding, the city constructed a floodwall on Hardman Avenue. Volunteers and city employees also filled sandbags to keep the water at bay.
The view from Indian Mounds Regional Park on March 27 showed the Mississippi River making it’s way up the earthen levies at Holman Field at the St. Paul Downtown Airport. The river was at about 18.5 feet that day, according to the National Weather Service, with it estimated to crest above 20 feet around April 1. The record high for the river in St. Paul is 26 feet, which happened in April 1965.
