State berth on the line Monday

Mounds View High School has qualified for the team portion of the boys state tennis tournament 10 years in a row and is looking to extend that streak on Monday, May 21. The Mustangs face Maple Grove in the Section 5AA final at 4 p.m. at Irondale High School.

Maple Grove is the top seed and after receiving a first-round bye, won its quarterfinal and semifinal matches by identical 7-0 scores over Park Center and Blaine.

Mounds View is the No. 2 seed and after a first-round bye beat Coon Rapids 7-0 in the quarterfinals and Centennial 6-1 in the semifinals.

The winner of the section final advances to the Class AA state tournament on June 5-6 at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center. The Section 5AA winner opens the tournament June 5 at 8 a.m. against the champion of Section 7AA.
