Huskies, Mustangs in volleyball playoff action

A pair of Bulletin-area high school volleyball teams is in action in their respective section tournaments on Thursday. Here's a look at where Mounds View and St. Anthony Village stand thus far in the post-season.

Mounds View

The Mustangs face a tall task in the second round of the Section 5AAA playoffs. They travel to take on top-seeded and third-ranked Blaine at 7 p.m.

The Bengals have just one loss on its record this season and have won 17 consecutive matches since that defeat. Blaine ended Mounds View's season in 2011 in the section semifinals.

Mounds View, the eighth seed, advanced to face Blaine by knocking off ninth-seeded Rogers 25-15, 25-15, 25-19 on Tuesday. The Mustangs are 15-12-2 entering Thursday's match.

The Blaine/Mounds View winner advances to the semifinals on Halloween night.

St. Anthony Village

The Huskies play their first Section 5AA match on Thursday. Seeded third, St. Anthony hosts 14th-seeded Minneapolis Edison at 7 p.m.

St. Anthony enters the match on a three-game winning streak and has an overall record of 16-6-1. Edison is 5-18.

The St. Anthony/Edison winner advances to the section quarterfinals on Oct. 30 against either sixth-seeded DeLaSalle or 11th-seeded Milaca. If the Huskies advance, they will play at home.
