County works on upping pedestrian safety after tragic crash on McKnight Road


courtesy of Google Maps Following a Jan. 4 crash that killed one pedestrian and critically injured another on McKnight Road near the Villages on McKnight apartments, Ramsey County engineers held a community meeting to discuss short-term and long-term changes to improve safety on the busy throughway.

Following a fatal crash at the beginning of January on McKnight Road, Ramsey County engineers met with the community Feb. 11 to talk about short-term and long-term changes to McKnight.

Photo exhibit features East Side Hmong-American experience

A never-before-seen set of photos, which focuses on her childhood home near Lake Phalen, will be on display at the East Side Freedom Library Feb. 22 through March 17.

For Pao Houa Her, photography is like writing.

On Feb. 11 the West St. Paul City Council approved a power purchase agreement with Ideal Energies that will lead to the installation of solar panels on City Hall and the city’s public works facility.

Inver Grove Heights clears way for brew pub


file photo With city approvals out of the way, the former Ruby Tuesday site, 9051 Buchanan Trail at Arbor Pointe, is set to become Inver Grove Heights’ first brew pub.

In January, the Inver Grove Heights City Council approved the first reading of ordinance amendments to city code that would allow brewpubs to operate in the city.

Dakota County working to improve Thompson Park


courtesy of Dakota County Dakota County is looking at two master plan concepts for Thompson Park in West St. Paul. Senior county planner Lil Leatham said it won’t be one concept over the other, but rather aspects from each concept will be taken and used to create a preferred plan that should be complete by the end of the year.

Thompson County Park in West St. Paul is on its way to getting a facelift. Work is currently being done to update the master plan for the 57-acre park located off Butler Avenue, with the goal of giving park users what they want.

Each photo listed what needed to be fixed at the home, which has no running water or electricity, for it to be deemed habitable again. The council took action requiring the home’s owner to fix the numerous issues.
