After a second reading and unanimous approval by the Mounds View City Council on Sept. 9, a new ordinance will soon take effect raising the tobacco purchasing age to 21 throughout the city.

Officer and driver hospitalized
A high-speed chase in Mounds View the evening of July 7 led to a collision between the driver of a stolen vehicle and a Mounds View police officer in a squad car.
On the Mounds View ballot this November, two city council incumbents are running for re-election without any challengers, and the incumbent mayor is also running unopposed.

The candidate filing period for city council races without a primary closed Aug. 14 and the following candidates have filed for elected office in Shoreview, Arden Hills, Mounds View, Lauderdale and Little Canada.
