NEWSBRIEF: District 622 community ed receives grant from USA Swimming Foundation

School District 622 Community Education was chosen as one of 117 learn-to-swim programs in the United States to receive grant money from the USA Swimming Foundation in 2019.

The awarded money will go toward District 622 Community Education’s continued efforts to provide reduced-cost swim lessons to underserved families in the community.

This year alone, the USA Swimming Foundation awarded a total of $618,200 to programs across the country that will provide swim lessons to an estimated 32,000 children.

“It is very exciting to be chosen for this grant and to be able to serve more families within our community. Swimming is a valuable life skill for every child in Minnesota. We are extremely grateful for our partners and donors, who continue to make a difference,” Aquatics Program Coordinator Linda Napoli said.

School District 622 Community Education’s American Red Cross-trained instructors help develop water safety and swimming skills for all ages and abilities in a positive and fun learning environment. Classes are offered in the evenings and on weekends at John Glenn Middle School in Maplewood and Skyview Community School in Oakdale.

To date, 7.5 million children have received the lifesaving gift of swim lessons through the USA Swimming Foundation’s Make a Splash swim lesson provider network, comprised of more than 1,000 qualified lesson providers across the nation. To learn more, visit†
