Hill-Murray goalie nominated for senior award

Jake Begley

Senior Jake Begley is in his third season as a varsity goalie at Hill-Murray and second as the Pioneers’ main netminder. He has put together some impressive statistics this year and was recognized for it last week.

Begley is one of two finalists for the Frank Brimsek Award, which is given to the state’s top senior goaltender. Begley was nominated along with Hermantown’s Cade McEwen.

With one game to play, Begley was fifth in the state in goals-against average at 1.49 and he was in a dead heat with McEwen for the state lead in save percentage at .939. McEwen led the state in wins with 23 and was second in goals-against average at 1.29.

The award will be presented, along with the Mr. Hockey Award, at a banquet on March 12 at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.
