Four Roseville runners are set to compete in the Class AA state cross country meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

Three members of the girls team advanced to state and will be joined by one member of the boys squad.

Running for the girls are freshman Samantha Kurkowski, junior Hanna Torvi and sophomore Naomi Boehm. All three finished in the top 15 at the Section 4AA meet on Oct. 22 at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights.

To qualify for state if your team doesn’t make it, a runner must be among the top eight runners who are not members of one of the two qualifying teams. Kurkowski led the Raiders with a seventh-place finish and was the third runner from a non-qualifying team to cross the finish line. Torvi finished 11th overall and sixth among the top eight others and Boehm ran 15th overall and grabbed the eighth and final at-large spot.

As a team, Roseville finished third with 86 points. That snapped the Raiders’ streak of five consecutive trips to the state meet.

Also competing for Roseville at sections were freshman Isabel Bibeau (26th overall), senior Sonja Swanson (27th), junior Lindsey Lee (30th) and senior Robyn Holmes (36th).

East Ridge claimed one of the team state berths by winning the section title with 30 points. Runner-up White Bear Lake, which finished with 80 points, also qualified for state.

Roseville was the only girls team to claim more than one at-large state berth. Tartan, Mahtomedi, St. Paul Highland Park, Woodbury and North St. Paul earned one each.

On the boys’ side, Roseville junior Collin Kiley is headed to state for the second straight year. He finished eighth overall and sixth among the at-large state qualifiers.

As a team, Roseville finished eighth. Stillwater won the section team title and White Bear Lake was second.

The Class AA races at the state meet are in the afternoon starting at 1 p.m. with the boys competition. The girls are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

Concordia Academy

The Beacons competed in the Section 4A meet on Oct. 23 at Battle Creek Park in Maplewood. The boys team finished 13th while the girls didn’t record a team score due to not having enough runners compete.

Senior Thomas Madison led the Beacons’ boys team with a 61st-place finish while senior Grace Boisvert was the lone Concordia girl to run in the section meet. She finished 80th overall.
